A purple look with some glitter! (*Glitter pictures added)

For being a Queen Makeupbee, Tiomi sent me some Sprinkles Eye and Body Glitter from Eye Kandy Cosmetics to review.  The color I got is called "Berry Blast" and it's a gorgeous blueberry type color.  But with it being loose glitter, I looked around a few places looking for glitter glue so I could use it.  I went to Sally's because a friend of mine (LisaMarie from Makeup & Beauty Talk with LisaMarie) said that their glitter glue is decent.  Well they didn't have any but the girl there said I could just use hairspray.  Which Meredith Jessica Pigments and Palettes also said she uses to get her loose glitter to stick.  So I gave that a go today.

Here is the look I came up with today!

I wanted this to look purple so I did a more pinky colored purple underneath the blue glitter.
What I used:
TFSI
NYX JEP "Milk"
Calypso Minerals "Matte Violet" pigment
Calypso Minerals "Black" matte pigment

*Edit* I know their colors are beautiful but I just found out that Calypso Minerals has been taking people's money and not sending them the products they've ordered.  So please don't order from them!  I don't know about dupes for all of the colors but Glamour Doll Eyes has a color called "Mingles" which is a good dupe for "True Blue".  I'm so sorry!*

NYX Ultra pearl mania "Silver"
Balmbini Volume 2 "Promiscuous Pearl" (highlight)
L'oreal Lineur Intense Carbon Black
Maybelline The Falsies Mascara
And some hairspray and the "Berry Blast" glitter on lid

On my lips (which looked much brighter in person):
MAC "Pink Friday" lipstick
MAC "Right Image" Cremesheen Glass

I think the glitter is really gorgeous.  I wish it stayed as sparkley after I patted it over the hairspray as it is in the container.  I am not good at getting decent pictures of glitter.  I don't know what it is but it just doesn't ever look sparkly for me.  But here's the glitter:

And yesterday I redid an olive smokey I eye I had done a while ago because I had so many people asking me to do a tutorial for it.  So I did!  I tried to change the angles with everything so you'll have to let me know if you think it's better!

I've felt like such a lame-o lately.  I haven't been very inspired.  And I've had a hard time getting good pictures of my work.  I don't know... hopefully that gets better soon!

Thank you all soo much for reading this!  And I just checked and I'm up to 400 followers now!!  Thank you guys so much!  And if you haven't yet, be sure to go enter my Calypso Minerals Giveaway!  I want to show you guys how much I appreciate more.  I wish I could give it to every single one of you (like for real!)!

About me tag! (I stole this from Ronnie at Bows and Curtseys!)

I took this from Ronnie's blog, you can check hers out HERE!!!  I just think it's fun to learn more about bloggers!

Vital Statistics:

-Name: Sonja

-Nicknames: Well, that depends on who it is.  I'm "Babe" to my hubby, Son-Son to my best friend, Sonj to my sister, Blondie to my dad, Mommy to my daughter, Starryskies to you guys!

-Birthday: August 30, 1985

-Place of Birth: Albany, New York

-Zodiac Sign: I'm a Virgo.

-Male or Female: Female

-Occupation: Stay at home mommy!  Hopefully to one day be a freelance makeup artist (I've also seriously considered working in a bridal boutique, I'm obsessed with "Say Yes to the Dress," "Amsale Girls," and those types of shows).

                                                 Appearance:

-Hair Color: Oh boy haha.  Well, my ends are blonde, the middle is brown, and the roots are brown with blonde highlights.  I have like 700 colors in my hair.

-Hair Length: I say long (when it's straight it covers my boobs haha)

-Eye color: Blue

-Best Feature: I guess my eyes.  I've always gotten a lot of compliments on my hair though.

-Height: 5' 5 1/2" holla!

-Braces?: Not anymore.  I had them when I was in middle school.  I hated them.

-Glasses?: Nope.  It's weird.  I'm like the only one in my family who doesn't wear glasses or contacts.  I'm sure they'll be coming later in life!

-Piercings: Si senor!  I have my ears (2 in each ear and my cartiladge), my nose, and my belly button

-Tattoos: None yet.  I really want one.  But I'm not sure where to get it.  I'm a huge fan of ribcage tattoos but I'm not skinny so I'm thinking it wouldn't look good.

-Righty or Lefty: Righty.

Your 'Firsts':

-First best friend: Technically I'd have to say a girl named Jenna.  She and I had sleepovers when we were still in diapers.  But really I'd have to say Kayla.  We've been friends since 1st grade and we still are friends today.

-First Award: Umm.... I don't know haha!  I won coloring contests in elementary school.  But the first major thing I remember winning was "Most Improved" in 8th grade.  Making a switch from a public school to a private school was really tough.  The expectations were completely different and I wasn't prepared.  It took me a year and a half to get my act together.

-First Sport You Joined: T-Ball.  I didn't want to play.  But I did anyways haha.  I played softball in highschool too.  I'm not sure why.  I really didn't enjoy it (man, those balls leave some nasty bruises, just ask my friend Kim!).  I liked basketball (which I also played) but I wasn't very good, I just thought it was fun.

-First Real Vacation: We used to go camping all the time when I was little.  I remember going to Maine, to Cape Cod, and to our campground in the Catskills.  We also went to Disney World when I was 9.

-First Concert: That would be Michael Bolton.  Let's hear it for Michael Bolton everyone!
Thank you to my sister for that.  We got tickets for his concert one Christmas.  I was jealous that we didn't get Paula Abdul tickets too.

Favorites:

-Movie:  So many!  I love movies!  All of the Toy Story movies, Meet the Robinsons, The Proposal, Easy A, I Love You, Man, Alpha Dog, A Perfect Getaway, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Bridesmaids... gosh, I could just go on and on forever.

-TV Show: I don't watch too many shows but I still love Friends, America's Next Top Model, Teen Mom, Project Runway, Say Yes to the Dress, Amsale Girls

-Colors: Well my favorite is purple.  But I have a bunch of favorite color combos.  Purple and orange (or coral), purple and green (any shade), blue and brown...

-Song: This is not an easy question.  I really love the song "Hope" by Twista and Faith Evans
But I still love "Mmm bop" by Hanson (like legit, I start bouncing and singing everytime this song comes on), same with "Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears.  Oh and a new favorite of mine is "Get Your Money Up" by Keri Hilson, Keisha Cole, and Nicki Minaj.

-Candy: Probably York Peppermint Patties.... yummy!  And I also love Swedish Fish

-Restaurant: I don't know.  I like going to inexpensive places.  But if I had to pick one, I'd have to say Canali's in Rotterdam, NY (that's where my hubby proposed to me).

-Store: Target!!!  I love Target.  I could just walk around there forever haha.

-Book: I really like "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers

-Magazine: Allure.  I love Allure.  I also get Glamour but I like Allure better

-Shoes: I'm not as shoe crazy as the average girl but I think that's because I have fat feet (and a bunion.  ewww haha) so I have a hard time finding shoes that fit me well.  But for some reason Target shoes always fit.

Currently:

-Feeling: I feel really emotional today which really isn't a common thing for me.  My husband asked me to make fried apples sometime so I made them this morning and he tasted one and said, "I'm not really a fan" and I cried.  And it was so stupid.

-Single or Taken: Married baby!  It'll be 5 years in April!

-Eating: Nothing.

-Listening To:  My daughter run around with "Bob" which is the stuffed animal that gets sent home from school with the best behaved child of the day (so proud!)!

-Thinking About: These questions

-Wanting: Perhaps another cup of coffee.

-Watching: The words appear on the computer as I type them.

-Wearing: Jeans and my very '80's sweatshirt I got from Myrtle Beach

Future:

-Want Children?: Probably not any more.  But I think I want another dog (which are more work than babies!).

-Want to be Married: Already done!

-Careers in Mind: Makeup artist or bridal consultant (or perhaps a mix of the two).

-Where do you want to live?:  Well, we own our house here in North Carolina but I'd like to say closer to my family, who live in New York.

                                                            Do You Believe In:

                                                                                       -God: Yup

-Miracles: Sure do. That little girl is my miracle!

-Love At First sight: No.

-Ghosts: No

-Aliens: I don't think so.

-Soul Mates:  Sure.  I mean, I think that it's definitely possible to fall in love with multiple people (preferably not at the same time haha).  But I like to think that there's one person who completes you better than anyone else has or will.

-Heaven: Yes.  When my nephew died, it was especially comforting knowing that he's in heaven.

-Hell: Yes.  And I hope that's where anyone who hurts children the way the man who killed my nephew go (not a nice thing to say, I know, but really, how easy is it to forgive someone for something like that?).

-Kissing on The First Date: If that's what you feel like doing, go for it.

-Yourself:  If I'm being completely honest, probably not as much as I should.

So that's that!  I hope you guys enjoyed reading this!  And I really hope if you have a blog you do this too!  If you leave me a link, I'll definitely read it!  I really honestly enjoy getting to know the person behind the blog!  I hope you have an awesome day!!!  Thanks so much!!

Reptile Series: Eastern Indigo Snake

When I came up with this idea for the reptile series, I really wanted to do a look inspired by this black snake I'd seen.  I just couldn't remember what it was called.  So I googled it and it was most definitely an Eastern Indigo Snake that I was thinking of.  I think they're really beautiful.  They're super dark and super shiny, I just think they're really cool.

So here's the snake:
This poor guy has to shed, that's why his eyes look like that

And the look I did inspired by these guys:

Haha obviously I was playing around with the editing on this one

I really wanted it to be shiny and intense.  I also was doing my shape to be kinda sinister feeling since snakes are often considered "evil".  I also had a really hard time getting a good picture of this look, I'm not sure why exactly but I wasn't diggin the way they were coming out.  Oh well!

What I used:
TFSI
L'oreal HIP Color Chrome Eyeliner in "Black Shock"
NYX Ultra pearl mania "Black pearl" (foiled)
Inglot 351 M
Warm, medium tan from my 88 palette
Inglot 393 P (highlight)
L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara
NYX Megashine Lipgloss in "Baby Rose" (it's basically clear with some glitter in it)

And I have a surprise!  I tried to do a tutorial!
It's the first one I've done that I actually think came out ok.  I still have no clue what I'm doing editing-wise but I gave it a shot.  You'll have to let me know what you think!  Just know that I'm super nervous (which you'll be able to tell if you watch the first 10 seconds haha).

Any tips, pointers, or suggestions for videos are more than welcome!  And is there any way to make them upload to YouTube faster?  Man, it took like an hour.  And it's a 6 minute video!  Oh well!  I hope you like it!  I know the eyes look a little uneven so I went back and tried to fix it after I did the video.

Oh yeah, and don't forget to enter my GIVEAWAY if you haven't yet!
Thanks guys!!

I'm doing a series! Reptile Inspired Makeup: Caiman Lizard

I decided today that I'm going to do a series.  I've seen a ton of bloggers do a series of makeup where they're inspired by a certain group of something and do makeup looks based on that.  So I decided I wanted to do a reptile series.  My husband is really in to lizards.  We have a ton of lizards (and two baby tortoises) in our house and he's always showing me pictures and stuff.  And so often, I say, "no, I don't want that but it is really pretty."

The first lizard I chose is a Caiman Lizard.  They're really neat, they have this green body and an orange head and these cute black eyes.  I just think they're really pretty.  But they require water in their housing so I don't want to own any haha.  So here's what Caiman lizards looks like:
Aren't they pretty?

So here's the look I did inspired by these guys:

I think, if you know what a Caiman lizard looks like, you can tell where I was going with it!
What I used:
Eyes:
TFSI
NYX JEP "milk"
Inglot pigment 43
Calypso Minerals matte pigment "Envy"
Calypso Minerals matte pigment "Torrid"
Inglot 407 P
Sugarpill "Flamepoint" (orange)
MAC "Vanilla" pigment (highlight)
NYX "Black" shadow
MAC Blacktrack fluidline
L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara

Face:
Revlon Colorstay combination/oily skin "Buff" and "Sand Beige" mixed
Maybelline dark circles eraser "fair"
Maybelline Super Stay concealer (2nd to lightest shade)
Covergirl professional loose powder "translucent fair"
ELF studio blush/bronzer duo
NYX "peach" blush
MAC "Vanilla" pigment as cheek highlight

I hope you like this!  I was afraid it would come across as "carrot" to people haha.  What do you think of this series?  Do you have any reptiles (it doesn't have to be just lizards) that you think are really pretty??

As always, thank you so much for checking this out!!  I appreciate you so much!

One look worn two ways

I wanted to do something holiday-ish.  So I went for silver (with glitter, which you can totally not see at all!) with red lips.  And then me, being SUPER uncomfortable in red lips decided to change them to pink.  And I took pictures just to show what a big difference a lip color can make.

The eye makeup:

What I used:
TFSI (as always!)
NYX JEP (so I had something for my pigment to stick to)
NYX Ultra Pearl Mania "Silver" foiled on lid
NYX Ultra Pearl Mania "Silver" not foiled above crease and under eye
NYX "Black" shadow along lashline and in outer v
Balmbini Volume 2 "Promiscuous Pearl" as highlight
L'oreal HIP Color Chrome Eyeliner "Black Shock" (may I just say holy burning eyeballs!!  Don't put this on your waterline!)
L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara
Some false lashes I had hanging out

Now on to the full face pictures!

Now I realize that it looks like I changed more than just my lip color when I went from red to pink.  But all I did was add just a bit more blush (I looked too washed out without it).  The lighting outside changed in between the time I got done with the red and the time I got the pink on.

Red lip colors:
NYX Soft matte lip cream "Amsterdam"
NYX Electra
NYX Snow White
I used a bit of all of these because I couldn't get it to look right

Pink lip colors:
The light pink Lipthix from Calypso Minerals
MAC "Right Image" Cremesheen Glass

Face makeup:
Revlon Colorstay for Oily/Combination skin
(in the colors "Buff" and "Sand Beige" mixed together)
Maybelline Dark Circle treatment in Fair
Maybelling Super Stay concealer (the second lightest color)
Covergirl Professional loose powder in translucent fair
ELF studio blush/bronzer duo (LOVE this bad boy!)
Balmbini Volume 2 "Promiscuous Pearl" for a highlight
And with the pink lip I added some of Ulta's "Girlie" blush

Which look do you like better?  Which one would you wear?  I know for myself, I really tend to like the look of red lips, just not on me haha.  I don't know what it is but still, I feel like people are staring at me with the red lips.  I feel like the red lips are much more Christmas-y though.

Thank you all so much for checking this out!!
And if you haven't yet, be sure to enter my Calypso Minerals giveaway!!

Calypso Minerals Giveaway!!!

*Edit* I know these colors are beautiful but I just found out that Calypso Minerals has been taking people's money and not sending them the products they've ordered.  So please don't order from them!  I don't know about dupes for all of the colors but Glamour Doll Eyes has a color called "Mingles" which is a good dupe for "True Blue".  I'm so sorry!*

I just posted a review on these Calypso Minerals products that I bought recently.  And I figured I'd stop teasing you guys and just tell you that I'm going to be giving some away!!!  I mean, I was excited when I reached 300 followers and like two weeks later now I have 356!  I can't even believe it!  I just want to thank you all so much for reading my blog!

There are going to be two winners.  The first prize is a 10 color matte stacker:
Which is the same stacker that I have, I just added a matte black to the bottom because everyone needs a good matte black.

The second prize:
These colors are shimmery and one is obviously a loose glitter.
The colors are Drama Sparkle, Lime Lite, Aquadelic, and Green Glitter.

So the giveaway starts as soon as I post this and will be ending on December 19th, 2011 at 10:00 pm (EST). You must be a follower of my blog to enter.

How to enter:
1. Leave me one comment below telling me who your celebrity makeup crush is and also your GFC name (so I know you're following me) and your e-mail address.  That will give you one entry.

2. Post a link to this giveaway on your blog (which you will have to post a link to in your comment, if you don't, I won't realize that you did it a it won't be counted).  This will give you two additional entries.

3.If someone enters and names you as a referral, you will receive another entry (for each referral).  So be sure to tell them to mention your GFC name if they come here because of you!!!

I am going to have this open internationally.  I have never shipped overseas but I'm willing to try it!

I will be using random.org to choose a winner.  I will enter your name as many times as entries you have (does that make sense???) in the order in which they are received.  If the same name comes up for both prizes, I will  go to the next name for the second prize.  Both prizes cannot go to the same person.  I'm hoping to announce the winners on December 20th.  I will then contact the winners and they'll have to reply to me within 48 hours or I will move on to the next name.

I hope that all makes sense!  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!!!

Calypso Minerals review!

Just so ya know, this is going to be a LONG post!!

If you've been following me for a little bit, you've seen me use Calypso Minerals matte loose pigments.  I stumbled across these by accident.  I was looking around on etsy, which I think is a cool site because it gives people a chance to sell their homemade products (anything from makeup to soap to jewelry to paintings to hats, scarves, and all sorts of stuff) on that site.  I'd been browsing around for a while and almost all of the loose pigments (I call them pigments, I'm not sure if they're actually considered that but they are mineral makeup) that I came across are shimmery.  I like some shimmer but not a ton of shimmer.  So I searched for matte pigments and Calypso Minerals' store popped up.

I was very intrigued by the swatches I saw.  So I contacted Jennifer, the owner, and asked if they do custom stackers because, while I liked most of the colors in both of the premade stackers I saw, I wanted some different colors.  She said they did and so I told her what colors I wanted and she put those colors in a stacker for me, as well as ordering a few extra pigments.  I also asked for 2 of her "Lipthix" which are supposedlly similar to OCC liptars (which I have never tried) and I told her what lip colors I like wearing.

So I placed my order, and like an hour later I got a notice saying that my order had shipped along with a tracking number.  I checked the tracking number a few times over the next couple days and all it ever said was that the electronic shipping information was received.  It never said it shipped.  It never said where it was.  But I placed my order at like 11:00 at night on November 11 and my order came on the 17th.  There was also a holiday and a Sunday in between those dates when the mail doesn't come so I thought that was pretty good.

So I got my makeup and swatched it right away, which I've shown you before but I'll show you again (swatched over NYX JEP "milk").

Here's what I got

Now I really wanted to test these out before I attempted a review.  So I did.
Each of these (except the loose glitter) comes with a sifter and a piece of sticky plastic over the sifter so you don't lose any product during shipping.
They're each 5 grams of product and individually cost around $7.  A stacker generally has 11 or 13 colors and costs $75 in her Etsy store.  However, since following Calypso Minerals' Facebook page, I have seen her offer many deals such as buy one get one free.  And I have to say, I did get confused because I couldn't seem to find a concrete listing of colors they offer.  Their Calypso Cosmedics webstore has some different prices and different colors than they show on both their facebook page and in their etsy store.  So that was a negative for me.

I have been applying these with my Studio Tools smudge brush (which I got from Target) over NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in "Milk" to help them stick.  The colors are really really beautiful.  And for the most part, they've been pretty easy to work with.  Now, my favorite color would be "True Blue."  I mean, look at it.  But I noticed if I didn't pack it on, the color went more navy blue than the bright blue that you see in the container.  This is another color I completely believe is worth fighting for.  You really have to pack it on to get the same color on your lid that in the container.  Like really pack it on.  But I'm willing to do that.

I haven't had issues like that with the other colors.  Here are some looks I've done using these
"True Blue," "Sublime," "Lemon Sorbet"
"Drama"
I used "Matte Violet" and "Razzle Dazzle" and a little bit of the black for this
"True Blue", "Grape Pop", "Matte Violet"
Now here are some swatches of these colors vs other similar (or maybe not so much similar) colors
I was very impressed with this black.  It's really nice!

Gosh, it looks like someone here likes purples.  I think they're all great.  I love all of these colors (except the Inglot AMC's because they're just not favorites of mine).  The Calypso Minerals do not stain like Sugarpill and the MUFE shadows do.  That's because there are NO dyes added!  So they're perfect for anyone who has dye allergies!

Yeah, I really don't have any colors similar to the Calypso Minerals ones.  This was the best I could come up with.  Envy is the only color I have yet to use, which is weird because I LOVE olive greens.

Ahhh True Blue, what a beautiful color you are!
Besides True Blue so badly wanting to be navy blue, I still love it.  Also, I'm not sure if the particle size is a little bigger on True Blue but I have to take the sifter off of the container when I use it because I can't really get any out.  And Drama worked very well for me the one time I used it!

Again, I really don't have any colors like these Calypso Minerals colors.  I just figured I'd show them next to other colors so you could see the differences.  Lemon Sorbet is so much more of a wearable yellow than Buttercupcake.  It's much more subtle.  And Torrid is a GORGEOUS color!  I love the warmness of it.  I've used it like 3 times just by itself in the outer corners of my eyes, just for something simple but pretty.  And that Inglot shadow is the color I fill my brows in with.

And now the Lipthix I received
I have yet to use the one on the right.  It's a bit grey for me.  I've held it up to my face and it doesn't really look like it'd be that flattering.  So I didn't want to use it if I might give it away, you know?

LOVE this color!!! HATE the packaging!  It makes such a mess.  Without me even having to touch it.  I'll use some, clean up the tube, set it down, and when I come back an hour later, it's sitting in a little puddle of color. Very messy.  Not something I can carry around with me because it'll get all over everything.

This is a very light, cool toned pink.  It reminds me very much of a lighter version of MAC's Pink Friday lipstick.  I like this but I cannot wear it by itself.  It looks very very unnatural.

Love these under glosses but definitely not alone.  And you need only the littlest bit!  They're $10.  But they will last you forever!  I think I read somewhere that she can match any color you want her to, she just needs a sample.  I think that would be worth doing.  I've actually been considering it.  I've used these under other colors I think every day since I got them.

Overall, I would definitely 100% recommend these!  I love them.  Loose pigments are a bit different to work with than pressed shadows but that doesn't bother me.  Again, the color selection is a bit confusing, as are the prices but Jennifer got back to me very quickly with answers to my questions.  I'm a big fan of supporting small businesses as opposed to huge ones.  That's why I'd been looking around etsy for stuff.  I'm so glad I did!!!

But man, am I sick of typing haha.  I hope that helps someone if you've been looking at these.

Disclosure notice: I did purchase all of these products with my husband's own money (haha, I'm a stay at home mom).  Jennifer sent some extra products because that's another promotion type thing she does.

I'm doing a giveaway that's running until December 19th, 2011 at 10:00 pm (EST) so be sure to enter HERE!
